Costa Rica Honeymoon Packages

Why choose Costa Rica for your honeymoon

Costa Rica, a Central American tropical paradise, is quickly gaining traction as a premier honeymoon destination. It is perfectly suited to a couple who want to add a sense of adventure to their luxurious and indulgent honeymoon.

The country’s diverse natural beauty sets it apart from other destinations. It offers everything from a pristine coastline, to a world-renowned network of dense, tropical nature reserves and national parks. This, along with near-perfect weather all year round, makes it a nature lovers paradise.

The country is flanked by the Caribbean Sea to the East and the Pacific Ocean to the West. This expansive coastline is extremely diverse, with something for any beach-goer, no matter your personal preferences. On the one hand, pristine white sand is contrasted by black volcanic beaches. On the other hand, you can search for one of the country’s virtually unexplored stretches of pristine white sand, or stay comfortably seated (cocktail in hand) at a more recognised beach.

Moving inland, Costa Rica’s large network of national parks are considered the country’s premier tourist attraction. Again, diversity is what makes these attractions special. Globally, the parks have the highest density of biodiversity, making the country a premier destination for nature lovers.

Furthermore, these parks are known for their waterfalls and volcanoes. As part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, it is not surprising that the country has around 100 volcanoes showing signs of activity. A tour around The Arenal Active Volcano was one of the highlights of our trip.

On the other hand, the way the landscape dramatically cascades towards the coast causes raging rivers to launch themselves off cliffs, creating countless waterfalls. A must-do for any Costa Rican honeymoon is a warm embrace under a torrent of falling water – romantic right?

I’m sure some of you adventure enthusiasts are sold already, but those of you who would prefer a slower paced honeymoon should not discard Costa Rica as an option. Although the country does cater to a more adventurous honeymoon, this adventure does not come at the expense of luxury. You could very easily spend your time in the spa, cocktail in-hand.

All-Inclusive Resorts in Costa Rica

Now that you have set your mind on Costa Rica, you will need to choose your accommodation type. When it comes to honeymoons, we suggest all-inclusive packages.

Your honeymoon is supposed to be a really special holiday. A time to remove yourself from real-life stresses, and embrace in your new life partner’s arms. Unfortunately, due to financial pressure, this can be difficult.

After an expensive wedding, many people find themselves cash-strapped. This leaves one constantly worrying about budgets while on your honeymoon – not very romantic right? To avoid this one, book an all-inclusive package.

This way, all you have to worry about is maximising your time, rather than your budget. You can, for a short period of time, free yourself from your real-world worries and focus all your energy on creating long-lasting memories with your new life-partner.

Adult-Only Resorts in Costa Rica

Another accommodation option to consider are adult-only resorts. These, as the name suggests, are destinations where children are not permitted. Naturally, this results in a more peaceful and tranquil destination.

This tranquillity will be especially noticeable in the swimming pool. You will not find little Bobby and his Superman arm-bands splashing around and screaming at the top of his voice. Instead,  you are likely to find yourself comfortably reading on a lilo, with nothing but the sound of the waves below to keep you company.

Well at least until the blender is put back to work. Another cocktail, why not?!

Besides providing a more tranquil experience, adult only resorts are also usually better geared towards romantic getaways. This is not a direct result of the lack of children, but rather down to these destinations’ target market – couples rather than families.

Ultimately, we suggest booking all-inclusive, adult-only destinations for your honeymoon. This will pave the way for a perfect honeymoon getaway by facilitating a romantic experience, away from the stresses back home. Destinations that are both all-inclusive and adult-only can be difficult to find, so you may have to forgo one of these two options.

San José

San José City

Why one should visit San José

The city of San José, located in San José Province, is the capital of Costa Rica. Many tourists fly into the capital as it is one of just 2 international airports, however, the airport is not the only reason one would visit.

The capital has a rich cultural heritage. The centre of this cultural hub is the Plaza de la Cultura. This Plaza is one of San José’s architectural gems and the country’s street culture capital. It is generally filled with street performers and camera-laden tourists, but is also often the location for important performance, celebrations, and even demonstrations.

Furthermore, the Plaza is surrounded by many of the city’s other cultural sites. This includes  the National Theatre, the Grand Hotel, Museo de Oro Precolombino (gold museum), and the Numismatic Exhibition

San José’s Cultural Highlights:

San José, the Highlands

Why one should visit the Highlands of San José

Leaving the concrete jungle that is San José City, you will enter the Highlands, an area known for its natural beauty. Its landscape comprises of rolling hills descending into deep valleys, which are littered with waterfalls.

Although the Southern half of the highlands are home to beautiful mountain ranges, the area is most famous for its volcanoes. These are located further North, in the Poas Volcano National Park. Besides the active volcano, this park also is home to inactive craters that have since become lakes, as well as an incredibly diverse range of wildlife and plant species.

Furthermore, this park functions to protect and preserve the source of many of Costa Rica’s major rivers. These rivers are vital for the survival of a significant amount of the country’s dense rainforests, which in turn support almost all of the country’s wildlife.

Unfortunately, one is unable to stay in the park. There are no formal accommodation options, and camping is not permitted. However, this should not be a major issue as, being close to José City, the highlands are relatively well developed, making travel easy.

Alternatively, if you want to be close to the park, try booking with the Peace Village. It is listed below.

Guanacaste Province

Liberia City

Why visit Liberia City

Liberia city is the capital of Guanacaste Province. The province is one of the most popular among tourists because of its amazing beaches and natural beauty. One will, however, not find a beach or forest in Liberia City.

Liberia city, unlike the majority of the province, is an urban jungle. Most importantly though, is the fact that it is home to one of Costa Rica’s 2 international airports. We suggest using Liberia as a conduit to Guanacaste Province, rather than a travel destination. If you are looking for a cultural experience in an authentic Costa Rican city, San José is the place to go.

Guanacaste Province countryside and coast

Why visit the Guanacaste countryside and coast

Guanacaste’s countryside and coast are what makes it the most popular province among tourists. The coast is a palm tree laden tropical paradise. Crisp, white sand reclaimed each day by the turquoise tide. Furthermore, it is beach weather all year round!

The countryside is famous for its great mountain ranges and ancient volcanoes, most of which are protected in National Parks. Costa Rica is known for aggressively protecting its fauna and flora with national parks, and the benefit of this is clear to see in Guanacaste Province. Its dense forests and incredible diversity of wildlife are truly special.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park and Santa Rosa National Park are two of the Guanacaste’s most famous national parks. It would be a pity to miss out on either of them because they are both incredible in their own light. However, if you are short on time, we suggest taking the time to fully explore one park, rather than briefly visiting both.

The Santa Rosa National Park is one of Costa Rica’s oldest national parks. Like the rest of Costa Rica’s parks, it is home to an extremely diverse range of fauna and flora. This park is, however, particularly special for 3 reasons: it is on the coast, one is free to camp inside the park, and it is home to the Hacienda Santa Rosa (one of Costa Rica’s most famous monuments).

Picture yourself tucked comfortably in your tent, after a long night spent sitting around the campfire. The soft sounds of the jungle combining with the waves, helping you slowly drift into a deep sleep.

On the other hand, the Rincon de la Vieja National Park is famous for its numerous majestic waterfalls and network of mightily angry volcanoes, that continue to spit lava today. The park is home to 9 volcanic craters, the most impressive of them being the Santa Maria Volcano, which rises just over 2 miles high.

https://ak6.picdn.net/shutterstock/videos/17867056/thumb/1.jpg

The park’s volcanic activity has fertilised its slopes with nutrient-rich, black soil. This allows these slopes to support forests and ecosystems not usually found at such altitudes and angles. Jaguars, pumas, tapirs, and sloths all call these forests home. Furthermore, growth at such altitude has resulted in numerous dwarf and cloud forests – a rare, eerie, and magical phenomenon.
